Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: So let's jump right into it. Hello, I am your host Nyah Chapman from the Luxe List Atlanta podcast. And I'm super excited to talk about all things Botox and beauty with Roger Yonce from Southern Surgical Arts Beauty Bar that just opened in Sandy Springs, near the highly anticipated High Street perimeter Mall development.

Hi, Roger, how are you?

Roger Yonce: Good. How are you?

Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: I am doing fantastic. You know, we're going to have a little beauty conversation today.

Roger Yonce: Let's go!!!

Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: So let's start by telling our Luxe Insiders a little bit about who you are and what you do.

Roger Yonce: Ok. So my name is Roger Yonce, I am a nurse injector. I started injecting in 2018 in Columbia, South Carolina where I worked for a plastic surgery practice part time. My prior background is in critical care. I worked in the ICU and I've been a nurse for about 10 years.

Straight out of nursing school I went straight into the ICU and worked at a Hospital in downtown Columbia, South Carolina. Then in May 2021 I moved to Chattanooga for love!

After relocating to Chattanooga, Tennessee, I began working at a fantastic med spa on Main Street in the city. About a year ago, Dr. Deal and Rebecca approached me, offering a position at Southern Surgical Arts. I haven't looked back since. As for what led me into the field of medical aesthetics, I wouldn't say that I ever thought I wanted to become an injector; it wasn't something that was really on my radar.

As unexpected opportunities arose, I decided to explore them. So, here we are, and I must say that my experience at Southern Surgical Arts has been quite distinct from my previous roles at other med spas.

Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: So why do you like working at Southern Surgical Arts?

Roger Yonce: The different product offerings and training. I now perform procedures that I hadn't done in my previous positions, such as male enhancement. Specifically, I offer a girth procedure using Bellafill®, which has gained significant popularity in the past year. It's worth noting that we are one of only eight practices in the United States that offer this procedure, and I am the leading provider for this particular treatment, known as the Girth Shot.

Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: Ok. Girth Shot huh?

Roger Yonce: It has been absolutely phenomenal. I mean, everyone who has tried it loves it, myself included. The results are truly amazing. Surprisingly, many people are unaware of this procedure; it's an emerging option for enhancing male aesthetics. Women can opt for boob jobs, why can't men enhance their package? So, there you have it.

Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: The Girth Shot is definitely something that I haven't run across until I was looking at the Southern Surgical Arts Beauty Bar menu. I thought oh my God, what, what is that? I'm sure that's definitely popular. HA!

Roger Yonce: You know it's definitely not something that everyone wants to talk about but some people are super interested in it.

I've had the procedure done so I can tell you my personal experience, aftercare, and what you can expect. It lasts 5 to 10 years. It has a natural look, and it's very smooth, unlike some other things that you could do. It will be a game changer, especially in Atlanta.

Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: So you mentioned Bellafill®.  What is that?  Like Botox or are Botox and Bellafill® feel completely different products?

Roger Yonce: Botox is a neurotoxin typically injected into muscles. Its uses include treating lines such as those found between the eyebrows. In total there are 5 brands of neurotoxins in the United States.

Botox produced by Allergan

Dysport produced by Galderma

Xeomin produced by Merz

Jeuveau produced by Evolus

And Daxxify produced by RHA

Bellafill® is not a neurotoxin, it is a unique type of dermal filler. It stands out as a long-term dermal filler and is derived from bovine collagen.

Without delving too deep into technical details, Bellafill® is designed to provide a smooth, natural, and long-lasting result. It's particularly well-suited for enhancing the male anatomy. While there are alternative fillers available, they may not deliver the same outcomes or aesthetic appeal. So, I'll leave it at that.

Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: Thank you for that explanation. So let's talk about Botox. OK. So tell me who your ideal client is for Botox. Give us, give us the rundown.

Roger Yonce: If people begin their journey later in life, it can be a bit more challenging due to factors like skin elasticity. So, my recommendation to anyone that’s tuned in would be to start Botox sooner rather than later; it's in your best interest.

An ideal client is someone with an open mind who is genuinely enthusiastic about the process. Communication is key; they should be clear about their desires.

As an injector, I tend to start conservatively.

For first-timers, I encourage follow-up appointments to gauge their experience and address any adjustments needed.

Your satisfaction is my priority.

I love all my patients.

Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: Pretty simple. a client that wants to start a little bit earlier in life, is open, and wants to start on the more conservative side. I love that.

So what does your  consultation process look like that makes you different from everybody else? What's your magic that you do when you are in a Botox appointment, whether it's the first time or a veteran.

Roger Yonce: Consultations vary dramatically. But first I'm going to hand you the mirror.

I want to know what bothers you, what would you change.

Then I’ll advise what I could do.

Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: How can you help a round face? Mine is more round as I get older.

Roger Yonce: So a round face! There are so many treatments! We can talk about this all day. Do you know what masseters are?

Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: I do. It’s the jaw muscle responsible for chewing and clenching the jaw. Right?

Roger Yonce: Yes! By injecting Botox into the masseter muscles, which are somewhat like walnuts, you can reduce clenching in the back molars and alleviate headaches.

For women with round or squared-out faces who clench their teeth, their masseter muscles are likely overdeveloped and exerting high pressure.

Injecting Botox into the masseters can help address teeth grinding, clenching, and headaches.

Additionally, for women, it can create a more heart-shaped and slim profile, presenting a more feminine appearance.

If you have a round face and are interested, I'd recommend a consultation to discuss whether this treatment could benefit you.

Masseter treatment offers various advantages and can yield appealing cosmetic results, especially if you already have sufficient facial volume and don't require additional filler.

Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: Ok. I love, I love that because I always think do I get filler, do I get Botox? What do I get?

Roger Yonce: I mean, you just come get the Roger touch.

Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: So you've got that client, they get their Botox, they get a little bit of filler.   What, what are some aftercare tips that you always tell most of your Botox and filler clients?

Roger Yonce: Before a procedure, especially with fillers, it's important to avoid certain medications like Ibuprofen and Aspirin. Why? Well, these medications have anti-platelet and anticoagulant properties, which can lead to increased bleeding when a needle is inserted into your tissue, potentially causing more bruising. So, it's advisable to refrain from them.

If you're taking aspirin for a heart condition, consult your healthcare provider before discontinuing it, as a bruise will eventually fade.  In case you need a pain reliever before the procedure, opt for Tylenol, as long as you don't have any liver issues.  Also, if you have an appointment for filler on Monday, it's wise to avoid excessive alcohol consumption over the weekend, as it can exacerbate bruising.

Here's a handy tip:

Consider eating pineapple the day before your filler appointment. Pineapple contains bromelain, which can help reduce the likelihood of bruising. It's worth a try if you want to minimize any potential discoloration.

In addition, if we've done anything with lips or cheeks or face, please hold off on putting any makeup on.  Why?  Because you have all these little injection points and makeup is dirty and carries bacteria. If you get your lips done, wait 24 hours before you put the lipstick on.

Also, I love aquaphor and  I'm a really big fan of Arnica. Arnica is a really good post-injection for bruising and swelling.

In addition, take Benadryl at night as it will help with histamine response.

AND I can’t stress the importance of communication.

What frustrates me the most is someone who never reached out to me during aftercare if there was a concern.

Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: It sounds like you really care about your clients.

Roger Yonce: It's not about getting a job and doing Botox, there's a lot more to it. There's  difference between me injecting as a past ICU nurse vs  an esthetician. It takes time and experience.

To perform these procedures safely, it's essential to have a deep understanding of facial anatomy. The face contains numerous blood vessels, and when injecting products, we must be extremely cautious not to inadvertently inject into a critical vessel, as this could result in a catastrophic event.

Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: I know there was a lot to take in, but I genuinely appreciated everything you shared. Our Insiders could clearly sense your passion for your work, and how your extensive educational background sets you apart from many other injectors. As a nurse injector, you bring a high level of expertise to your field. How can people contact you or follow you on social media? Please share your contact information.

Roger Yonce: I do body building so my Instagram is @Biceps_and_Botox_SSA! Catch me there.

Nyah/The Luxe List Atlanta: Stay tuned for the Biceps and Botox event we need to do soon!
