Meet Erica Bogart
LL: What is your make up style?
Erica: I would describe my make up style as a soft glowing glam. More specifically, a skin focused makeup application that enhances your features while allowing you to transition from day to evening with ease.
LL: Where do you typically pull inspiration from?
Erica: One of the advantages of this age of social media is that we can draw inspiration from the creative images we have at our fingertips the moment we scroll our screens. Everything is constantly changing yet continuously inspired by previous eras of fashion and makeup merging trends together. My favorite artists to follow include @nikki_makeup, @PatMcgrathreal, @danessa_Myricks, @Hungvanngo, @PatrickTa, @Emmawillismakeup, @emmachenartistry.
LL: What has been your favorite project so far in your career and why?
Erica: Without question, it would be when I experienced travelling on a private helicopter to do a shoot on a glacier in Alaska last Summer. It was epic! Moments like that make me feel so small in the world and put everything in perspective! A close runner up would have to be when I did a wedding in Greece. Travelling is truly my happy place, it is just a bonus when my work takes me to new destinations.
LL: What is your biggest pet peeve with makeup applications?
Erica: A pet peeve would be people being indecisive. I always tell my clients to bring images as inspiration so we are on the same page and I can bring their vision to life. Also, when clients are constantly on their cell phones preoccupied not listening to the direction that you need to execute a look.
LL: What are your favorite tools to work with and where can they be purchased?
Erica: Personally some staples I include in my kit are: Anisa beauty brushes, Danessa Myricks Skin oil, GUA SHA (www.simplykhalua.com) , Individual lashes from Sweed lash, Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks, Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks, PatMcgrath and Urban Decay liners. Becca Cosmetics highlighters, Patrick Ta brow wax, lip liners, and Vita Liberata body glow.
LL: What makeup trends are you excited to see phase-out and what innovative design techniques are you looking forward to implementing in 2021?
Erica: 2020 changed the full face makeup routine, now we are simplifying and focusing on skincare and softer looks that still emphasize the eyes and elongate the liner to give a lifted doe-eyed look. We are playing up our eyes more - coloured mascara has even made a comeback to play up the eyes! Lash lifts are a major trend if you are treating yourself and the bonus is it lasts 6 weeks vs. time-consuming extensions and refills.
LL: What do you consider to be your first “big break” in your career?
Erica: As life would have it, I did NOT plan on making this a full-time career, I opened the MAC counter at Bloomingdales Lenox while in college, and it grew into a full-on career after graduating with my Bachelors. I assisted on a Pharrell music video, then on to other photoshoots and campaigns, and it opened my eyes to new opportunities in this industry.
LL: What is your favorite part about working in beauty?
Erica: Hands down I love meeting amazing new people from all over the world, different backgrounds and professions! Working with all ages, races, cultures and sexes to help them glow up and feel confident makes this feel like less of a job; each day is unique.
LL: Earlier you mentioned that you noticed we are transitioning to softer looks, what would you say are your fave products for an everyday soft glam look?
Erica: First and foremost skin prep is KEY! Depending upon skin type, some of my faves to prep while doing makeup are: @ediblebeauty or @lauramercier to moisturize and @revision to prep the eye area, @milk CBD gel primer and @lilahb Aglow priming oil (smells like lavender heaven!) @Tatcha Silk Canvas @urbandecay and @thepatmgrathreal liners to play up the eyes. @sweedlashes individual lashes are a must! @kosas skin oil and concealer for an every day on the go look. It is skincare meets makeup! Bronzer: Hoola is one of my all-time favorites, I use it for eye shadow as well. @charlottetilbury almost anything she has for that signature glow! Remember that a luminous glow will always help your skin look fresh and hydrated.
